Calle de Toledo, 24, 28005 Madrid, Spain
Located between the La Latina neighbourhood and the Plaza MayorThe La Latina area probably takes its name from the old hospital, founded in 1499 by the humanist and writer Beatriz Galindo "La Latina", a Latin teacher for Queen Isabel I. It occupies a large part of the so-called Madrid of the Austrias and, although its boundaries are diffuse, it could be said that, articulated around the axis of the Carrera de San Francisco - which runs from the Plaza de la Cebada to the Basilica of San Francisco el Grande - these boundaries would be: to the north, Calle de Segovia - a deep boulevard formerly occupied by the San Pedro stream that flowed into the Manzanares River and is crossed today through "El Viaducto"; to the south, the Ronda and Puerta de Toledo; to the east, Calle de Toledo - which borders the Rastro and the Lavapiés neighbourhood - and, to the west, Calle de Bailén.
