La Pedreta, Carrer de la Marina, 271, 08025 Barcelona, Spain
La Sagrada Família, popularly also known as the "Poblet" neighborhood, is one of the six neighborhoods that make up the Eixample district of Barcelona. It has an area of 1.05 km² and a population of 52,164 inhabitants.Until the mid-19th century, what is now the Sagrada Familia neighborhood was a set of agricultural land, on the border of the old independent municipality of San Martín de Provensals with the city of Barcelona. Except for the isolated presence of some farmhouses, it was an uninhabited territory until the first urbanizations began in the 1960s. They were originally humble dwellings —barracks and ground floor houses— that were concentrated between what are now the streets of Marina and Paseo de San Juan. This neighborhood was originally known as the neighborhood of El Poblet ("the little town"), a name that was lost during the 20th century in favor of La Sagrada Familia, in reference to the temple, whose works began in 1882.In 1897 the town of San Martín de Provensals, and with it, the neighborhood of El Poblet, was added to the city of Barcelona. That same year and after decades of isolation, Valencia street was extended, which allowed the nucleus of El Poblet to be linked with the center of Barcelona.
