The San Martín district is the tenth of the ten districts into which the city of Barcelona is administratively divided. An initiative dubbed "Compact City" aims to be the benchmark for the Barcelona of the future. Other projects that are changing the face of the district include the extension of Avinguda Diagonal to the Fòrum site, the remodeling of Plaça de les Glòries, the semi-covering of Gran Vía, and the development of the coastline, from the Olympic Village to the Besòs.
