The most important archaeological remains are the castle of Mondujar, rumoured to be the burial place of Emperor Mulhacen and the ruined castle of Murchas, but there are numerous fine old churches as well. Nearby the village of Niguelas has a lot of cultural events, bars and restaurants. You can walk there from Acequias cross country in less than half an hour. You can also access the charming villages of the Alpujarra, the Ruta del Vino, and the high villages made famous in Gerald Brennan's "South from Granada". Here there are numerous pathways, but the roads are so quiet they can also be walked in peace and safety.
